National News 2007 Leadership Conference

Repositioning the Church Towards the Challenges Of the Millennium

Assemblies of God Nigeria is poised to put in place effective machinery that will transform and reposition the Church towards the challenges of the Millennium. This was the central focus of the biennial conference held recently. About 2,000 leaders, made up of the Executive Committee, District Superintendents, Area Supervisors and Chairmen, National Directors, Heads of Schools and Colleges, District and Area Coordinators attended the 2007 Leadership Conference of the Church which was held between February 12-15, 20007 at the International Conference Center, aka Evangel Camp.

In his Keynote address to the Conference, the General Superintendent, Rev Dr Charles Ogbonnaya Osueke called on the leadership to consider putting in place the strategies that will help the church to face the mounting challenges. Recalling his earlier position when he addressed the Consultative Assembly of the Church, Rev Osueke said that the Church must consider the position of the Church in areas like national governance, economic and social empowerments and such other things that affects the life of the society. He asserted that the Church must be holistic in approach. Making his own contribution on the subject.

Other speakers included, Rev Sebastine Obiang – General Superintendent of Equatorial Guinea, who spoke on “Sympathy Moves the Soul”. The Mandate of the Church was delivered by Assist General Superintendent Rev Dr Paul Emeka, while Rev Dr John Ikoni spoke on Church Growth. Delivering their own lectures Rev Dr Gabriel Uche, Prof Paul Ajah and Rev Dr Chidi Okoroafor, challenged the leaders on the Prospects, Price and Challenge of Repositioning the Church. Topics on Economic Empowerment and Social Engagements by the Church were delivered by Barrister Patrick C Abuka, the Church legal adviser, and an economic journalist, Vincent Nwanma dealt on the subject matter, Rev Dr Uma Ukpai and Her Excellency Mrs Euince Ukamaka Egwu shared indepth testimonies on their various commitments to social activities to alleviate suffering. Mrs Egwu is the President of Widowcare Foundation.

The Corporate Director of the Church Rev Uche Ama and Rev Dr Effiong Isangadighi, the General Treasurer respectively spoke on Information and Communication Technology for the 21st century church and Discipleship and Discipline. Rev Anthony Ogbah, Missions Director and Rev Albert Okakah, the District Superintendent of Edo District both brought the devotional message.
